What is Worm Humus?
Worm Humus, also known as worm castings or vermicompost, is a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer produced by earthworms as they break down organic matter. It improves soil health, boosts plant growth, and is safe for all types of plants.
How is Worm Humus Made?
Worm humus is produced by feeding organic waste (like vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, and leaves) to worms, particularly Red Wigglers. The worms digest this material, and their waste (castings) becomes the humus. It typically takes several months to produce high-quality humus.
Why should I use Worm Humus?
Worm humus is an excellent natural fertilizer that improves soil structure, increases water retention, and boosts nutrient levels in the soil. It’s chemical-free, safe for the environment, and helps reduce waste by recycling organic material.
What kind of waste can I compost with worms?
You can compost fruits, vegetables, coffee grounds, eggshells, and shredded paper. Avoid meat, dairy, and oily food scraps as they can spoil and attract pests.
Can Worm Humus be used indoors?
Yes! Worm humus is perfect for indoor plants. Its fine texture makes it easy to apply around houseplants.
How do I use Worm Humus in my garden?
Spread worm humus directly around plants, trees, or crops, mixing it lightly into the soil. For gardens, 1-2 kg per square meter is recommended. Apply more during dry climate or high temperatures for best results.
How often should I add Worm Humus to my plants?
You can add worm humus every few months, or more frequently if your plants need a nutrient boost. For fruit trees and crops, 0.5-1.5 kg per square meter is typically recommended.
What are the environmental benefits of Worm Humus?
Vermicomposting reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and promotes soil biodiversity. It’s also an efficient way to recycle organic waste into a valuable resource
